A compound sentence contains two independent clauses joined by a coordinating conjunction (and, but, for, not, or, so, yet).

Turn each simple sentence below into a compound sentence.

1 We ate lunch.

  We ate lunch, yet we were still hungry 

2 The rocket flew high.

   The rocket flew high, but it fell to the ground

3 Emily sang a song.

   Emily sang a song, and she won the contest

4 The goldfish swims in the pond.

   The goldfish swims in the pond, but the goldfish doesn’t always swim when we’re  watching. 

5 The party was fun.

   The party was fun and we stayed late to help clean up.

6 On Wednesday Peter put his hand up in class.

   On wednesday peter put his hand up in class so that he could ask a question on what we were learning.

7 Bert likes fruit for breakfast.

  Bert likes fruit for breakfast but he never finishes it all.

8 What is your favourite colour?

   What is your favourite colour? And has it always been your favourite colour?
